NYE 2009

this is my last blog post of 2009! goshhh

it's going to be so hard to sum up this last year.. i've done so much and had so many happy memories, it literally has been one of the best years of my life. it's such a shame that i can't see it ending and see the new year in, the way i wanted to. but to cheer myself up i think ill have a recap on all the good memories of ohhh nine!

january

-spent nye with kat j at the gynnies, we had some laughs and met some nice people :)

-i turned 18, wooo im a geek, so this meant it was my first proper night out, and it was possibly one of my best nights out ever. i loved that we didn't drink much back then, we just danced our feet off with some of my best mates :)

-started driving, errr, possibly not one of julies highlights of 2009 haha!

february

-erm can't think of much happening in feb other than chinese new year in london. it was lovely to spend the day in LDN with some bessies but it was freeeeezing!

march

-again, march is a bit of a blur, can't really pick out much happening. you can gurantee tho that it had many quiche wednesdays

-and lots of post sixteen room laughs

-and probably some cheeky drinks in either the forge, stanny of even the castle :)

april

-not sure if im right but perhaps glenstock was in april? we got so excited for it from about february, and when it finally came it secured our love for the forge! aww it was such a sunny day, bliss :)

may

-exam season! can remember feeling sooo stressed out about it, just trying my hardest to get the grades to get into leeds and feeling like i didn't stand a chance.

-i remember sitting in the martinshaw field with charlie and katj when it was really sunny revising for sociology, that was really nice.

june

-finally it all ended. the end of gcc. it was so sad saying goodbye to just the place in general really, after spending 4 years there. but you get over it very quickly when you've got a four month summer ahead hahaha :)

-graphics end of class meal was really funny

-i think the first proper day of summer i went and played tennis with the tennis gang, d'aww they were good times. we were absolutely rubbish. but did we care?!

july

-omg. arrilas '09, room 33! loved it. one of the best holidays ever. i know im a bit too old to enjoy family holidays this much.. its a bit ridiculous, but i do. theres nothing better than doing nothing for a week in the most lovely place ever. bring on arrilas '10.

-also donated blood for the first time. i was well proud :)

-tried some cooking with lucy, sausage fahitas? ermmm they wern't so great haha but good times

august

-i remember most of august was about waiting for results day

-grace came back and it was so nice to see her and hear all about her life in thailand and get her out on the english dancefloors!

-then results day came eventually and i welled up reading that i'd got into leeds! i was so excited and it was such a relief. it was really nice that everyone else had got into where they wanted to go aswell. such a good day :)

-then prom night! in one word..amazing. it was so sad that it was goodbye to most of these people but me and the bessies had such fun tearing up the dancefloor after a sit down meal and being a bit cheeky with stashed away drinks. oh and ther was always time to take our formal outfits into town for a cheeky night in mosh!

-saw a couple of people from kasabian in the lobby too. get in ;)

-went to london with gran! had a fab day doing the touristy things like going inside buckingham palace and getting photos with the royal guards. it was lovely.

september

-the big count down month to uni

-did all the usual stuff, plenty of shopping trips for a "necessary" new uni wardrobe! and spent the day at ikea getting tons of new gear for the flat.

-went to see dorian gray, the woman in front of us was hilariously scared

-had my first mosh tuesday as a form farewell, but ended up just me sam and sophie.. still had a fun night tho :)

-then uni started, moved into 103 wooo love it :)

-freshers week to be honest wasn't what i expected, i was too shy and was a bit daunted by it all, but i soon settled in!

october

-the start of some hilarious tigertiger tuesday nights out with the 103 girlies, love 'em!

-david coming to visit with this mate, then me skanking them to go out on the town

-saw THE doctor karl kennedy live. made outfits and everything. loved it!

-carnage and many other fun nights out getting to know people up in leeds

november

-a lovely first weekend back home in leicester for halloween and pink! -my first ever arena gig outing with bffl, such an amazing show and a fun night out :)

-loved being back at home to spend time with the family aswell

-many more fun nights out, including a few pub crawls getting to know graphics course mates who are lovely

-got swine flu, not a highlight, but how lovely people where, especially my flu-buddy chlo, made me realise how close us flatmates are :)

-had many more nights out and decided a day shopping in leeds is probably what the doctor would hav suggested so mum came up and eventually after a bit of persuading brought be back to leics for the weekend.

december

-december was all about the pranks and drunken late night antics!

-there were water fights, taping/cling filming/ toilet rolling doors up, lemoned before exams at very early in the morning o clock, flinging down stairs in boxes and cheeky curries, chineses and toasties

-we also managed to be civilised young adults for at least 5 minutes and cook a xmas dinner together :)

-then of course loving come back home for xmas, seeing gran and the family and spending a bit of time back at work and seeing all the regulars again.

this obviously isn't all the amazing moments of 2009 because theres loads..

im sure theres lots of little things i've missed out

but it has been a fab year. thanks to everyone who's been in these memories :)

same again next year?

i'm stupidly ill. it just has hardly stopped since i went to uni.

honestly, someone proper must have just thought, freshers flu? nahhh lets make it freshers year flu for rebecca smith, that will be nice.

today i've been to see my doctor. thank god, it was taking ages to be able to go in, like nearly a week.. i'm sorry but why do doctors have bank holiday and shops and that don't?! surely it should be the other way round, this country needs to get its priorities straight.

anyway.. got a nice round of antibiotics in after barely opening my mouth. its so frustrating waiting so long to see a doctor and they don't even let you speak before there sending you out the door again. idiots.

at the moment i don't feel any better for it. ibuprofen lasts about 2o mins then its worn off again, lovely. and my whole face is full of slime. lovely.

so at this rate, i'm heading straight for the loners guide to new years celebrations. i.e on my own. sober. ohhh.

but i've got my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. :)

it's ruined enough of my christmas holidays i'm fed up and absolutely not letting it ruin anymore.

for now though.. i need sleep, painkillers and this revision load to disappear.

i well should be an emo. this blog post sounds well depressing.

one hundred.

this is my one hundredth post :) and i've decided to step it up a little. i'm gonna' write more. At times it might get a bit deep or worse... a bit geeky! hahaha but i think it'll be better than short, worthless nonsense i have been writing on here.

i've not blogged much recently because of how busy i've been. since i've been back home it's been a juggling act of reunions, work, family and uni-work. and on top of it all i'm ill. again. lavvvly, it never stops.

but heres a quick run down of whats been going onnnn!

i've LOVED seeing everyone again. the other night it was just four of us girlies with just tooo many cocktails and too little sleep before work the next morning but i had so much fun and it felt so nice to be able to tell them everything about uni, hear all about their experiences and have a big laugh about it all. bliss :)

you can tell a good night with how many memorable quotes there were from it, and that one had plenty...

hahahaha such a laugh.

then theres been christmas obviously! i'd been working full-time everyday up to it so i was really greatful of the break for it to be honest! i can't imagine in a few years time thats what life will be like.. working everyday?! i get exhausted just doing it for the odd week. i loved working though, its nice to see everyone again, like collegues and the shop regulars. its really nice aswell when people say "merry christmas" to you... theres something nice about strangers passing on a cheery message :)

christmas day, i loved having a day chilling out with the family, having lots of food, presents, quizzes and fun. and i love how boxing day is more or less the same again!

this silly cold has wrecked it a bit this year though, but i still managed the walk round the tables ;)

then there was the big series finale of one tree hill season six. sounds a bit silly compared to family festivities and big friend reunions but honestly i couldn't love the show more, and me and the brother absolutely love discussing it in detail so it was a big deal for it to be finishing! the quotes are always beautifully written. here's the quote at then end, which i loved :)

been back in lec's n sessions at uni, after my terrible week of bed-rest last week.

wednesday night went to see twilight

...not really a fan of the films, but oh my god.. team jacob ;)

was such an idiot but had a good night havin' a dance n a maccy dee's with chlo'!

then thursday watched gavin n stacey with the girls n a glass of wine

absolutely love tht programme!

then decided to go mission with char :)

had another good night, woooo!

then friday mum visited for the day.. hmm lets see

did some shopping.. then had lunch.. then went shopping.. then got the car and went food shopping.. haha!

got some nice new clothes, a size smaller than usual.. eeee ;)

went to the german market too, its well good! well better than the tack in leicester!

then.. she brought me back to leicester to chill here this weekend

yesterday i performed a big comeback to uni.

saw her amazing show at the birmingham NIA altho' got told we shudn't be standing... errr no.
then after seeing a girl crash her car into the wall, waiting for quite a while in a queue and nipping off for a "pizza" and chips in b'ham we returned home courtesy of mand' n nick :)

saturday
had a lovely lie in
then went to see the sociology squad in town for shopping
ended up starting the "shopping" with a cheeky half pint at the pub!
then rampaged around town looking for our ace halloween costumes
got back in time for a lovely curry with the family... good ol' indian/chinese night on a saturday
then hit the forge with bowlerrrrrr n met charlie..i mean a headless marie antoinette! :)
got a v. expensive wine bottle down us then hit townnnn
firebug..an hour attempt at mosh..no luck..back to firebug..then sophbeck!
met quite an array of people but unfortunately none of them where who i wanted to catch up with.. im sorry to all the people in mosh i didnt get to see :(
there was irish guy and his 2 friends, scaley hand guy, pirate guy, guy who was back from france, guy with a 7 year old kid, tj and peadoooo tho! good times guys.
got back at 6. quality :)

sunday
had another much needed lie in.
spent the morning lazing about in my pjs. watched "United 95" with david.. nice and uplifting but it was good, the people on that plane don't get enough recognition really.
then had a delicous sunday roast.. get in!
repacked and got the epic journey back - delays and an unexpected change due to "replacement train service" with bowler.
i paid like £15 for a seat, but its ok babe the floors well better.
but loveddd every bit of the weekend :)

i hope every trip back to leicester is that good.
but it's good to be back in leeds too! ...oh apart from this MCQ exam i'm supposed to be revising for.

my course has started :) woop!
im so excited for it. people grumble about lectures 'n shizz but i don't mind
i want to do this, thats why i've signed up for a lifetime of debt after all!

they've really recommended that we keep a creative log.
so i've started one and i'm loving it.
its my little book of thoughts, inspiring images, words and lyrics

at the moment im inspired by vivienne westwood style union jacks
and the notion of searching.

bring on graphic design and communication. im ready to push hard for this!

last days of summer '09

i've had my head totally in uni preparation and the countdown to moving out
but today it hit me that this is my last week of summer.

and its been one of my best ever.
in june i made a to-do list on this and ive looked back and i've done like 3/4's of 'em
and theres loads that wasn't on the list that i've done and loved.

in fact 2009 has been one of the best ever.
theres so much i've done from london to corfu, from leicester to birmingham, from dancefloors to chilled out parks, from studying hard to passing exams, from house parties to formal proms, from funny memories to embarassing photos, from dvd nights to cinema outings, from restaurants to kitchens... it's been wicked.
and so many people i've got closer too, like proper mates.

things are obviously gonna' change and that's quite daunting.
but i'm very excited :) bring it.

last night i watched "the reader."
it's stunning. the story is well good and the subcontext of secrecy and inability to tell a story was breath-taking.
pure recommend it, but not for the costume design.. (very awkward with the parents! haha!)

i've started loving films.
the other week i watched benjamin button. it was slow but again the story was a stunner.
and i went to see harry-p at the flicks.
disappointing. too much concentration on teen-crushs starting and setting up for the next film.
plus draco malfoy looks about 25. haaa
dan rad' saves it tho' and you can't really not go see a hp film.

i've had to give up last weeks happiness in my favourite place in the world
to be back in boring leicester, with barely anything to do or occassions where people can meet up!

i can't predict whats gonna happen in these next few months
i'm gonna' face harder goodbyes and possibly begin new favourite memories and places.
so perhaps i should be grateful i'm stuck at home, because it gives me those few days i need to prepare myself!

this is just a selection of my high-lights.
i've never been so sad to come home, but there was literally no faults or anything wrong with that holiday at all and how many places in the world can offer that?
i miss it so much, its like a new empty feeling. england just is awful, there's nothing here.

the other day i went to see "my sister's keeper"

and honestly it's the most moving film ive seen in my life.

i cried in the cinema, and even welled up when i got home just thinking it over.

it really made me think about things to do with my life.

i need to do something voluntary, or do something for charity, especially for leukemia

and im an absolute dickhead for just always doing things to help me reach my own goals

but i forget completely about how much pain and suffering other people go though

it's just the luck of the draw and these people don't get the chance to even dream.

i've been utterly selfish and im gonna' start by donating blood at least.

a tribute to MJ who sadly died yesterday.

i for one, actually loved michael jackson's music

so rather than joking about when i heard of his shocking death i felt saddened.

i had no sympathy for his personality or lifestyle choices

but he was a musical genius in every way

and i loved his tracks. my fave? man in the mirror, definately!

the price people have to pay for having such exraordinary talent is so high for everyone.

so many don't make it, or get destroyed from pressure or a lack of privacy

"celebrity" is probably the biggest killer,

there... i've saved the coroner a vedict.

1. get a tan. well, it's hardly a tan, more a glow- but it's as good as my skin gets
2. try to be good at tennis, so that i've got at least 1 sport i'm good at.
3. go to london - at least for a day.
4. buy something ridiculously expensive, because i won't be able to when i become a "student."
5. star gaze and fall asleep outdoors without meaning too.

7. drop a dress size, or at least tone up. i've become a bit addicted to 3 mile runs!
8. completley transform my i-pod. -a major update is needed.
9. make a mix-c'd then give it to a stranger.
10. spend at least one day volunteering to help somewhere that needs the help. well not a day volunteering..but i donated blood to help somewhere that someone that needs it.
11. go shopping in birmingham.
12. get a day pass and take loads of buses to places we've never been.
13. build up my portfolio with stuff i want to design, rather than "have" to.
14. learn to cook.
13. host a bbq, with a gazebo into the night, until tea-lights are needed. well a garden party 'til we could barely see each other!
14. learn how to do the laundry.
15. catch up with my relatives and people i havent seen in ages.
16. take all my coppers and get them changed into spendable money.
17. work lots of shifts so that i can afford to enjoy summer and a social life at uni.
18. promise to keep in touch with people, so much so that they get sick of me.
19. take a road trip to somewhere random.
20. take advantage of free places like museums and galleries.
21. go to the park and sit on the bench like old times.
22. have amazing nights out where when we're not dancing we're laughing.
23. have cocktails by the pool at ridiculously early in the day-o-clock.
24. go countryside walking with the 'rents because its what we used to do.
25. watch the ever-growing list of films i havent seen yet, but im depserate to. i've seen countless of amazing films this summer, but the list keeps growing. i get too easily drawn to trailers.
26. put teddy away in storage. hello, eighteen.
27. redecorate the "playroom."
28. sort my phone out, properly. well, the man in the shop said he'd fixed it...
29. accept that no difference can be made now, so forget results day until it comes.
30. pass my theory driving test and make an improvement on my driving.

I'm sure theres things i've missed, but i can always add them :)

today, i can't help but love...

my second day of summer?

i went for a drive, and got better... i only stalled once!
and then went shopping with my mum :)

after visiting my new optician
he told me my eye was fine after i thought id permenantly damaged it!

he just laughed and told me his GP mate had done the same

phewwwww

third day today!

went to the uni degree show

some stuff was amazing but we couldnt help having a little bit of fun with the "fine art"




















on the way we saw this man. i literally laughed my head off at him.





















then went for a slightly surreal but in a good way, meal with the design crew, including "the law"

funny times! :)

thuderstorms

yesterday was the official day one of summer!
well like, a weekday not spent at a college.

i spent it "playing out"
after getting my nails done...



















and then playing tennis.
literally one of my favourites things.
i love that we're not that good and don't actually play a game.
i love that we spend hours on the courts, trying not to get radgy at each other.
and mostly i love that we whack the music up and turn it into the dancefloor!



















it rained and there was a storm with some major lightning
but we mostly played on!

SUMMER IS HERE.

I didn't realise how much of change it would be, i literally have nothing i "need" to get done.

Gosh, it's been like 10 years since ive had no schoolwork to be getting on with.

Death of the geek?

Even last night. Saturday night (!) i spent in watching a film with mum again

Its somewhat of a growing tradition - two weeks in a row.

We watched Australia, its epic in length and story. Loved it!

The actual filming of Aus is stunning.

Next week will be spent living it up tho'
